SKOOL21 offers STEM learning opportunities for learners aged 9 to 11. Using Wedo 2.0 programming kit, learners are given problems based on the General Science Grade 5 National Curriculum learning. After introducing technology through mechanics in grade 3 as the first revolution, then electricity in grade 4 as the second revolution, and now programming in grade 5 as the third industrial revolution. Learners critically think about the ideal structure for the solution using mechanics, electricity and programming collaboratively in groups.
STEM Resource Book used in the course offers STEM challenges aligned with the General Science National curriculum objectives for grade 5. The projects allow learners to work collaboratively in groups to ideate solutions critically, developing essential 21st-century skills such as creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration. Learners understand and start using sensors to get their model to do a specific function; this way, they learn how to take input from their surroundings using sensors and use conditions using coding to direct a machine to provide a particular process. It enables learners to think like makers, and they have a better understanding of the mechanism and processes behind the leading technologies widely used today.
